Wish You Were Here: Postcards from South Ayrshire

Ayr
An illustration of Tiny Tam, a cute cartoon mouse, on a sandy beach with the ocean and a sailboat in the background. Tiny Tam is wearing yellow sunglasses, a blue-striped beanie with a pompom, and orange shorts. He has a pink flamingo-shaped inflatable ring around his body. To the left, a colourful beach ball rests on the sand. Behind him, a large postcard with a red and blue border reads "Wish you were here!" in a playful font, with a stamp in the top right corner that features a tiny mouse illustration. The scene has a bright and cheerful summer vibe.

The Maclaurin Art Gallery is situated in old stable block and servants quarters that adjoin Rozelle House. The contemporary art gallery has a diverse calendar of exhibitions and related activities throughout the year.

Open seven days a week, the tearoom with patio dining is located in the lower ground of the house. It offers a delicious selection of home baking, breakfasts, lunches and hot and cold drinks – all available for sit-in or takeaway. Picnic bench areas are located to the rear of the house.

Permanent Exhibitions

The ground floor is home to Henry Moore’s bronze sculpture ‘Working Model for Draped Reclining Figure’. Rozelle House is home to Scottish Artist Alexander Goudie’s magnificent series of paintings inspired by Robert Burns’ famous poem ‘Tam o’ Shanter’. This narrative cycle of 54 paintings was purchased by South Ayrshire Council with funding provided by the T.B. Hunter Charitable Trust, The Fraser Foundation and the Souter Foundation, and they are now part of our permanent collection. A selection of these works is on display all year; you can see all 54 works online on our Museums at home page. Rozelle House also hosts the Ayrshire Yeomanry Museum, a small exhibition that tells the story of their history through a display of their archives, artefacts and original costume. View their history.
